Mr. Kim Hill – Co-Founder and President of HWA Analytics




Kim Hill is co-Founder and President of HWA Analytics, a Michigan-based research and consulting firm he helped establish in 2013.  The firm’s focus is on providing consulting, advising and partnering services to public and private sector organizations in the areas of automotive and advanced transportation, advanced manufacturing and sustainable economic development practices.  The firm’s expertise and experience lies in technology trends, labor market analytics, sustainable development strategies, market research, corporate and public sector strategy, and societal sustainability.


Mr. Hill leverages 17 years of experience at the Center for Automotive Research, where he rose to Group Research Director and Associate Director of Research. Hill authored studies that quantified the economic and employment contributions of assembly plants, companies, and entire industries to the economies of individual states and the nation as a whole, while focusing on sustainable solutions for communities whose traditional auto sector continues to undergo unprecedented restructuring. He created and directed the Automotive Communities Partnership program that delivered advanced manufacturing intelligence and trend forecasting to many states and communities across the Great lakes region in the United States and Canada. Mr. Hill’s work with CAR further involved examining new uses for closed automotive facilities and examining the economic and social impacts of new development to local economies.


Hill and his team have engaged with a number of communities undergoing major economic transitions. Hill has led the formation and staffing of task forces and community groups focused on transitioning the economy of the community. He also provided data and intelligence to the efforts. Communities assisted by Hill include Sterling Heights, MI (Chrysler announced plant closing), St. Louis, MO (Ford plant announced closing), Normal, IL (growing the interaction between the community of Normal and Mitsubishi Motors of America), Lima, OH (helping the community position itself to solicit and win major investment in the local automotive operations), Janesville, WI (helped the community leaders engage in a dialogue with General Motors, and also to begin the visioning, planning and implementation process for transitioning the community).  Further, Hill has recently worked with Sterling Heights, MI, to examine the feasibility of an innovation collaboration center, and with the Detroit Region Aerotropolis to brand, market, and create a strategy to market the qualities and assets of the region to potential private sector investors.


Mr. Hill has worked with Fortune 500 companies, many small and medium companies, and a number of federal agencies and state and local governments. Mr. Hill received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.
